Summer Dress in January

Floral Dress // Target
Underdress // H&M
Boots // Wild Pair

Bright colors = bright mood! I swear it works, most of the time. I normally wear this dress in the summer, but I like it layered with this black dress with the sleeves. Today I will be packing up orders and possibly designing some posters!
I'm feeling better, but I'm still going to rest up for most of the rest of the day, just in case :)

My, My Mailbox 1/30

Peanut butter nuggets of mazing // my bestie Rhiannon aka bakerhi
I'm so lucky to have a friend that bakes such amazing goodies, and is nice enough to send me some when I'm not feeling my greatest. Had to hide some of these from my boyfriend. MINE! (I did share a little bit)

Bitch Craft Zine and Bracelet // Via Nicole/Poor Kitty on Etsy
I love craft zines, and feminist zines, but a feminist craft zine?! Gimme. Best of both worlds. Bitch Craft has a pretty interesting article about Marina Abramovic and also has some good advice on having yr own business selling crafts and art. Hell, I could always use some more advice and ideas for the success of my little business I got. And the bitch craft bracelet is a great plus, been wearing it since I got it <3

Goodies from Wendy(brrrd)!
This was such a pleasant and sweet surprise from Wendy. Mixtapes are obviously the best thing ever, and so thoughtful. It's filled with great 50's music. Not to mention the kick ass embroidery and sticker :)

Anonymous Glitter Bomb!
I laughed so hard I almost cried when I got this. Actually, I think I did cry. Sent from an anonymous person, the card was filled with hearts and glitter and the first sentence reads "Congratulations, you are officially as gay as glitter!" I repeated that phrase through-out my day, laughing to myself. Theres still glitter everywhere, and I don't mind one bit!

I've been getting some pretty awesome mail lately. And being as I feel like crap it's been making me feel way better. I just want whatever I have to go away already. I mean, it's a good excuse to stay in bed and watch John Waters movies all day, but I would also like to be able to get some work done, but I'm physically incapable.
I'm trying not to whine too much, but good god I'm sick of being sick. I'm just going to really listen to my body this time and just stick to my bed and getting rest, instead of trying to force myself to work. Hopefully I will recover by the time my pottery work week starts! My boss is totally fed up with my snot rags lying around the shop...

All on Black

Top // H&M
Skirt // Bestey Johnson (Thrifted!!!)
Tights // Betsey Johnson
Boots // Doc Martens
Earrings // Betsey Johnson
I swear I didn't realize that almost everything I'm wearing today is by Betsey until I started to type it out. I got this skirt in a thrift store in Novia Scotia when I was 15, and I forgot I had it. Such a good find,  a great fitting Betsey Johnson skirt at a thrift store for like 20 bucks.

I'm wearing all black but I'm feeling sassy mixing patterns oooh la la!

That's pretty much all I got, I'm off to the post office and then to work. I get to paint the storefront window today, horray!

My, My Mailbox

So this a new segment I'll be introdcung, showing ya'll all the sweet goodies I receive in the mail from time to time...

Just Do It Zine, Greif to Gratitude Workbook, Act Your Shoe Size print // Jetta Vegas

So, I've been on this self love/appreciation kick lately and you can tell by the kinds of zines I've been ordering lately. Just Do It is a zine about taking the leap forward to change yr life for the better, and to stop holding back on what you really want to do with yr life. Jetta uses a lot of her own personal experiences to exemplify how "taking the leap" is one of the best decisions you can make if you want to accomplish yr goals and dreams. Totally inspirational, as per usual from her! I also got the From Grief to Gratitude workbook, "Twenty Five Things to be Grateful of Right Now" which is just a little book to write all the things your grateful for down. I think it's such an motivational idea, and I will be keep this baby in my purse until it's filled. And of curse the awesome act your shoe size print! Couldn't have said it better myself :D

Shit's Fucked, a Positivity Guide // Ms. Valerie Park Distro

Another PMA filled zine, filled with short passages on how to improve yr attitude and overall being. My favorites :
Solo Date - "Learn to love solitude"
Wanderlust - "Get out of town already. A physical Change prompts emotional changes".

CONFIDENCE! Zine and Lisa Frank valentine with temporary tattoo // Courtney of GQ Tales

Another zine about self improvement that uses their own personal experiences as motivation. They include a checklist on how to insure your self confidence and self worth is on point. I love it.

REVOLUTION: Love Your Body Print and awesomest fucking drawing I've ever received// Sydney
The minute I saw this drawing on my tumblr feed I needed it to grace my wall. I need to find a spot of honor for the print, as well as the sweetest thing I have ever received in the mail from anyone -

Till, next time (such a cheesy saying but..)

Betty Boop Barret!

Dress//Thrifted
Belt//F21
Boots//Lord & Taylor
Barrett//Thrifted

Today I actually got up early to take some pictures before I had to go to work at the pottery shop! I feel so productive. This dress feels like it was made for me, I absolutely love the perfect fit on it. I just recently re-discovered this barrette, along with all my other plastic hair clips and such, hidden away in a box in my closet. How could I have forgotten about something so rad? I'm going to try and get back into wearing plastic barrettes, I totally forgot how awesome they are.
This betty boop one was almost lost forever today! After I got my lunch across the street from work I noticed if wasn't on my head anymore, but I re-traced my steps and found it on the sidewalk right in-front of where I bought my food..I picked it up and quickly put it back in my hair, while getting strange looks from passer-bys and people waiting for the bus.
Also, I'm going to try and smile like this more often in my photos..I like it :D

Gloomy Day!

Dress // Marshalls
Belt // Thrifted
Earrings // Betsey Johnson

These pictures are actually what I wore yesterday. Its son gloomy today, I'm still working from my bed. Hey, if I can work from bed, why not? You don't even want to know what I'm actually wearing right now. (sock monkey printed pajamas)
I love wearing dresses with horizontal prints and stripes. It really irks me when some say that you can't wear any horizontal stripes if you have any curves in your build, because they make you looks "wider". For someone with these great italian hips, I find it so annoying when people say that, it's like an insult to my shape, because it's telling me that my body is wrong and needs to be hidden. But I love rocking prints like this, I'm pleased with how they look on me!
We should really stop dressing to look like something you're not, embrace what you have and accentuate it. Because your body is absolutely lovely!

Love,
Midge

PS Put a bird on it!
PPS Who wants to help me save up for a fancy camera??

Recycled Leopard Print!

Dress // Mom's old beach cover up, refitted into a dress
Oxfords// Lord & Taylor
Bracelet // Kate Spade
Headband & Ring// Brooklyn Stunner via Bust Craftacular

It's a new day, and I'm feeling so much better than I felt last time! Just tons of green tea, rest, and self love, all I need! This dress used to be my mom's beach cover up in the 90's. When she didn't want it any more, I sewed up the sides so its now a mini-dress! And it's one of my favorites. The oxfords go really nice with it, and it's rare that I don't wear boots this time of year, so it's a nice way to switch things up a bit. My cherished Kate Spade bracelet adds a great pop, too, especially with such a neutral outfit.

I've had a very good week so far in terms of my art and my business, things are looking up for 2012, and I am very happy. I've started on a perzine,  about my current "career" identity crisis and such. It's serving as some great self therapy, and hopefully it will be out soon :)
Hope you're having a great and productive week so far, as well!

Midge

Four Eyed for Fashion!

Cardigan // H & M
Top // Thrifted
Skirt // H & M
Boots // Gifted
Buttons // Made by Midge (Moi!)

Confession time! I don't really need my glasses that badly. I need them for distance, mainly, but I just love how glasses look. So I'm a fashionable four eyes!  I have a few pairs of glasses, and I'm always thinking about getting new frames...when I can afford it. I think I need some cat eye frames next, vintage maybe?
Anyways, today I ain't feeling so hot so I'm now out of this outfit and in my jammies, blogging from my bed. I'm quite congested and feeling very lethargic, I'll be doing the rest of my work for the day right here!  I'm very good at taking care of myself when I don't feel good so I'm expecting a speedy recovery for whatever I have!

Self love = essential, especially when you feel crappy.

Midge

DIY Project : Spruce Up an Old Cardboard Box

My first DIY tutorial! I find that this is an easy and cost effective way to organize your things!
This is the method I used to decorate my zine and envelope boxes in my previous post.

Here we go!

Repeat all steps until you have all sides covered. And Viola! You can add lables on them if you like (like I did). I just drew them out marker and slapped them on with some glue stick.

Happy organizing!

Midge

Lil' Red

Top // Ebay
Skirt // Thrifted
Boots // Lord and Taylor

"THESE ARE MY HIPS, YEAH!"
I love the bunching at the hips on this skirt, it makes my curviness even curvier, and I'm learning to love it more than ever :)
It doesn't really read on my face but I was colder than ever in these photos! It actually is starting to feel like winter here in New York, it's been in the 40's and 50's until recently. Still not sure how I feel about it.

Stay warm, other people who have been spoiled by mild weather!

No Make-Up Day!

Shirt // Thrifted
Skirt // H&M
Belt // F21
Boots // Lord & Taylor

This top is one of my favorites. I got it at the renegade craft fair in brooklyn. I think it actually used to be a dress for toddlers or something, because its really tight up at the bust. But I still love it.

Today is my first day back at work at my part-time job. I took a winter vacation to catch up on my stuff for Made by Midge, which was much needed and extremely productive.
I usually try and get a much done for my little business as I can before I have to go in. Therefore, no time to fill in my eyebrows today!

Hope you're having a good week back after the holidays as well!

Love,
Midge

Coffee is Magic.

All filled up on my zine stock! (mostly) It's tough to keep up sometimes. Caffiene helps so tremendously for tedious work. And silly television shows playing in the back round. Over all though, coffee is effing MAGIC.

Anyways, what I'm getting at is I'm giving my studio a makeover! It's a pretty small space, but it's the only one I got and it needs to be "beautified". Pretty space, happy Midge. I'll be documenting my process with project, complete with before and after pictures!

My first endeavor will be my stock shelf area. I have some great DIY ideas brewing in my head to make this little spot pretty and functional so stay tuned :)

Brooch // Made by moi
I love this sweater dress thing because it's short and I'm a proud floozy who likes her short skirts
Super proud of the "pussy Power" brooches I made, decided to keep one for myself. Perks of having an awesome etsy shop!

This has been my first of many outfit posts! Now out to brave the intense wind to mail out my orders!

Happy New Year!

Hi all!
A new year and I'm expanding my presence here on the vast interweb! As well as my beloved tumblr, I will be updating this blog like a fiend. I'll be making posts about zines, DIY projects, my day to day life in and outside my studio, some updates on what I'm making at the moment, and some outfit posts!

I've been toying with the idea of having my zines, art, ect business becoming a full time job. It would make me the happiest screamin' feminist on earth.
I'm crossing my fingers so that blog can help me further reach that goal.

So here are some "resolutions":

  • Make more wear-able items for my shops.
  • Stop being so bashful with self portraits. My outfits kickass and they need to be seen by more people.
  • "Beautify" my studio. I've been neglecting the over all neat-ness and prettiness of my workspace, and it needs some sprucing! I'll be doing some before and after posts for this one.
  • Get my zines more out into the real world, by sending them to different shops and such.

I think that's it for now, hope you're excited as much as I am for an amazing 2012.
This is gonna be fun :)

Cheers!

Love,
Midge
