Happy New Year! I always love to have alot of fun with my make up on NYE, it one of those nights where the more outrageous the better. So why not draw a heart on my face? Later I'm going to be using my glittery hairspray, too. And glitter on my face. Glitter everywhere, it's New years!

I usually don't set resolutions for myself, cause I feel like its just a way to set myself up for disappointment, being as its kind of hard to keep yourself in check with personal resolutions. Maybe this year will be different, being as I'm self employed now, I can set a resolution that has something to do with improving my way of work, which would be easy to keep up for me cause I'm pretty dedicated to my work. But I still haven't thought of anything. Oh well. Last year starting this blog was sort of a New years resolution, being as I started it in the beginning of January 2012. It was kind of a resolution to improve my self confidence and happiness in my own skin, and I though setting up a style blog would be a good way to express that, and i think its going pretty well!

For the hell of it is went all the way back to my first post on here and a lot of the goals I set for myself have come true, and it's pretty awesome. So maybe I take back that thing I said about resolutions being a disappointment set up. Maybe my resolution should be to stop doubting myself! I do that a lot.

Tonight I'm going to a friend's party in the city, which is a bit different for us cause for the past 4 years we've been going to these trendy warehouse parties in Brooklyn, but I think I might like a regular house party better anyway. No crazy admission fee, or hour long coat check lines. Or creeps on way too many drugs. I digress. I'm pumped for 2013, see ya then!

Lookalike

So, I pretty much pay homage to Enid Coleslaw everyday when I get dressed. But Friday, my friend had her holiday party that was also a costume party. I thought this would be a good opportunity to see how well I can put together an Enid costume! The only new thing that I had to buy was the bat mask rom party city ("go back to party city where you belong!")... but everything else I had already, by coincidence. Wooo!

Saturday we all went shopping for our bridesmaids dresses, and the ones we picked are awesome and none of us got food severe food poisoning in the shop. Yay!

Platform Ornament DIY

So, I'm really into EASY crafts for Christmas. With all the other stuff going on with gift shopping and going to parties, there is not a whole lot of time and mental capacity, for me atleast, to make things that are too complicated.

So, I present to you, an easy ornament DIY!

What you'll need:

  •  Any circular lid that you can upcycle. I used part of a mason jar lid.
  •  A figurine of your choice, I picked these trees because I had so many leftover.
  •  Pipe cleaners
  •  Any other embellishment you like
  • Hot glue gun
So, like I said it's real easy and simple. Glue all your things to the lid, I used a silver pipe cleaner as a little border. For the hook on the tree, I wrapped another pip-cleaner around the top of the tree, and then glued the little heart charm to cover up any messy-ness.

I'm gifting this ornament to my parents, every year I make them a cutesy ornament :)

Merry Christmaaaaassssss!!! Time for me to wrap more gifties.

Little Christmas Scenes DIY

Photobucket

So, this is more a DIY idea rather than a tutorial. Its like an easier and more unique alternatives to snow globes! You can use a plethora of different little things from the craft store to make these. Obviously you don't have to use all the exact things I did but here's some stuff that I may suggest:

Photobucket

  • Mason jars/ small wide vases
  • Little trees
  • Fancy lookin fake berries
  • Glitter tape
  • GLITTER!
  • Pom poms
  • Figurines
  • Tiny Ornaments
  • Hot glue gun (you actually will need this regardless of the other supplies you choose)

It's real simple and self-explanitory. Just hot glue some things into the bottom of a clear glasses vase! I used white glitter for snow for one of them, which came out really cool.

I also had the idea of gluing things to the lid of a mason jar, and then screwing it on so the jar is like the snow globe idea, when when I did it, I wasn't sure about how it looked. The I realized the the little scene I did looked cute just on its own! Especially with the glitter tape.

Happy gluing!

Black Velvet

Black velvet= my favorite Holiday dressy material. It's so classy, and warm and stretchy. You can really go wrong. I love my stretch. And this dress has the most adorable cut out on the back, that add just the right amount of dressy-ness it needs. Tonight I'm going to a yearly Christmas-time dinner out with my family.

I've decided that I'm going to take a Christmas break for my self from work, which is exciting because this is the first time I'm taking time off on my own, working for myself. It feels kinda cool. I'm going to spend this week crafting, blogging, sleeping, seeing movies, going to holiday parties, going to my first bridesmaid dress fitting, and possibly a haircut, finally. I'm pumped, and ready for my Christmas break! Just gotta get through this week.

So gloomy and crappy out today! Bad idea: watching Celebrity Ghost stories when I'm alone in the house on a rainy evening. Don't do that. Other than that, I'm having a pretty good and productive Friday. Excited for the weekend..dinner in the city with the parents the lunch on Sunday with my art school friends. Ready for some down time!

Shop Update - Tis the Season!

Tis the season for..glittery antlers and peppermints and crafts... Duh!

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
This is definitely my favorite seasonal item...because I love zines, obvi. Joy is DIY is a a crafty Holiday zine, which is filled with both silly and practical ideas to have a fun, crafty, hot toddy induced season, and to stay out of the malls, and stay in with activities that involve glitter and whiskey! It also acts as a great card to give to someone, equipped with a "To and From" section with space to write a little love note. It is sold individually and in sets.

I've also finally jumped on the jewelry train! Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket An my favorite oh so very sentimental Christmas movie quote in button form:Photobucket
All this stuff can be found in the Modern Girl Blitz Shop.
 Happy Holidays!

Framed Art

I LOVE THIS DRESS SO MUCH. It's like a frame for my tattoo, it's kind of perfect. I wore this last night to my friends launch, showing of his new video game (called Wormrun)
I was a little over dressed, but I got the dress in the mail that day and I wanted to wear it so bad. So screw it, I'd rather be over dressed than neglect my new favorite item of clothing. Best part, if you have small to medium sized boob-age, the dress's bodice has enough support so that you don't need a bra..which is good because it totally shows through the cuts outs in the dress.
The tights are very cute, but I must say after walking around a whole bunch last night in Brooklyn I can't recommend them. They don't stay up. At all. The heart trend is huge now so just don't buy Steve Madden heart tights, plenty of other people make them. Unless you like the crotch sagging down forcing you to either waddle or be constantly pulling them up in public like the classy lady you are.

Christmas Time is Here

I love decorating! I doubt that's a big secret. Here's a peek into how I decorated y room for my favorite time of year...

Photobucket
All of my cutesy vintage like items, and my ..hand. It kinda creepy but I like the way it looks. And the Bow bracelet it's hold looks simple but festive.

This is a snowglobe I made from squirrel figurines and a baby food jar!

I've had this nutcracker since I was little. When I has him for a couple of days, I guess he took quite the beating because his mustache fell off and I drew it back on with sharpie. I was convinced that  did and amazing job.

Some cute festive dressie outfit posts and fun Christmas DIYs soon to come!
