Hello! This was what I wore over the weekend, to my trip into the city to hang out with my pal Rhiannon. We did a lot of art store shopping and drank hot beverages to get out of the rain for a bit. Damn rain!
I got: a new ugly doll, Fea Bea ( I have a weird obsession with ugly dolls), 642 Things to Write About (like a creative writing workbook, I'm having so much fun with it), new pencils and other things I needed for the shop and stuff. If you were/are an art student in NYC chances are you also have an unhealthy obsession with the store Paper Presentation. It's where cute stationary and adorable office and decor items you don't need go to heaven. I love that place, my wallet thinks differently, though.

Anyways, you know, I've always wanted one of those necklaces with the glasses as the charm, because I love glasses so much, but instead of buying one, I dipped into my store's shrink plastic supply and made my own! Why not! I love it so much that I may actually make more, in different colors and stuff to sell in the shop. I have a shrinky dink problem, I think.

Midge

Jewelry Hanger DIY

 photo HANGERGRAPHIC_zps090cabfc.jpg

Time for a new DIY!
I've been needing a new way to organize my plethora of necklaces and bracelets, and when I found this calendar frame at the thrift store I was like "PERFECT"!

It's super easy. Here are your supplies:

 photo hangersupplies_zpse2324b64.jpg
So, it's pretty simple. You're gonna cover the frame completely with contact paper, after you cut it to size. The adhesive isn't too hardcore on this stuff, so it's easy to move around if you don't get it exactly right the first time.

 photo hangerDIY1_zpsb6621efb.jpg

Once you're done with that, a good tip is to put some clear packing tape  along the borders to it stays put once gravity takes it's toll. I learned that the hard way. Once I hung it up the top started peeling down because of all the weight applied to the contact paper. Another good thing to do is to get some clear thumbtacks, and line them up on the top of the frame. Just push them in at an upwards angle. It will keep the contact paper in place.
Alternatively, you can skip this step entirely and just paint the frame backing instead!

Adding the hooks is also super simple, the instructions on the package are really easy to follow. I used the pattern on the paper to count the spacing between each hook, and I also used the strip scraps as little place holders so I knew exactly where to stick the next hook.

To hang, I find the command velcro hanging strips to be the simplest, you don't have to put any holes in your wall! Again, the instructions on the package are easy to follow. You can find both of these things at most office supply stores.

TADA! You're done! Yay for organization!

Hello! Do you like my new little addition to my wall? I think it adds a nice touch to the my little photo background. I was gonna paint it red, but I like it as is.
This dress is so cute, it looks retro, but it seems like it was made recently. Like alot of my thrifted clothes it has no tag. Oh well.
Today has been productive, I'm started to re-work my portfolio website, it is SO out of date..back to work I go!

I'M COLD! I am so cold. I need Spring stat. Over it.
Well, my weekend was awesome, partied with friends, went thrifting with Mike, got some great finds, like kitty stationary. And I finally learned how to play poker last night. I kicked Mikes ass. Ha ha!
Even though it's Presidents Day my hard working butt is treating it like any other Monday. I'll be working on some orders and taking photos of new products! I feel like I'm in a constant state of creation, which is fine with me. My outfit its nice and warm and fuzzy to get me through the day, and this crazy wind!

Stay Warm!

Tunic// Modcloth
Skirt// H&M
Boots// Timberland

I wore this tunic in my very first post on this blog over a year ago! I still love it, especially paired with a bright skirt underneath for a little HELLO! (I needed another way of saying "pop of color" that, term is so overused) It also makes my butt look fab. Which is always a good thing.
Going to a friends party tonight, then maybe going thrifting on Saturday or Sunday. I need to like get out and do stuff this weekend, two weekends ago I was feeling sickly so I stayed in, and last weekend I stayed in too cause of the blizzard. I'm cabin feverish!

Hope your weekend rules!

Happy Valentines Day! I love any excuse to wear super frou-frou things with lots of pink, red, and hearts. Especially my candy heart necklace that says "Go Girl". Otherwise I don't get too mushy about this day, I mainly just like the visual aesthetics that go along with it. Oh and there's having my boo buying me Champagne and taking me out so that thats always cool.   When I was single I drank Champagne and hung out with my friend the TV. Mike and I have been together for almost 5 years but this is our 2nd V day together because we used to be long distance. So it was me and the TV on V day even when I wasn't single, haha!
Last year we watched John Waters movies and drank tequila and ordered a pizza. This year we are going on the more traditional route and going to dinner. Grown ups!

Somewhat of a Gratitude Post

Photobucket So, I've been in an obscenely good mood these past few days. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY (actually I do). But I'm not going to question it. I think it may be just a general satisfaction with my life at this point in time. I guess maybe because I'm a very nostalgic person, looking through blog posts from about a year ago, just to see how I've grown as a person and to see how my photo skillz have improved. Then I just noticed how I seemed real thrilled in a lot of those posts from like last Spring but I really wasn't at all. I was so confused with what I wanted to do with my life, when I had a real design job in the city which seemed so awesome on the outside but I really, really hated it. Like, miserably. Along with half of my living space being completely renovated, I just felt like my whole world was turned upside down. I know these seem like pretty petty problems, but I really did just feel like utter shit.  I didn't want to post about how much I hated my job on here when it was still so recent because anyone can see it, but now I don't care, whatever. Which was so hard, even though it was part time, it made me sad. I needed to vent. But I saved it for my perzine anyways and I still was able to get my feelz about it out. It's also easier for me to talk about negative feelings retrospectively, cause if I talk about why I'm sad when I'm sad, that can sometimes be damaging for me. I think the main thing that made me sad was because I was just questioning to myself, if I hate a real Graphic Design job, something I thought I wanted and was so excited about, then WHAT AM I DOING. Just such a let down! But now, I know exactly what I want, I have a concrete plan set for my near future with getting a house with the love of my life and everything is just dandy and I feel so thankful and happy and contented. My what i call my "career identity crisis" has ended and I know that I just want to continue my job as a quirky indie feminist artist and accessory designer, because it makes me so happy. I even talked with an accountant recently about real world big girl stuff with my business! I never thought I would be saying that. So I dunno, I'm just feeling gooood. And that is, well, good.

In other news, yesterday I bought a Bump-It. I'm finally going to have perfect 60's bubble hair,  just in time for Valentines Day.

Midge

Cleaning Out the Closet

Introducinggg....
Photobucket Photobucket
So I've been thinking about setting up a shop my closet shop for a REALLY long time now, and I've finally got around to it! Good thing too, I have so much stuff I don't wear/doesn't fit any more that need new and loving homes! And if you're reading this blog chances are you're gonna like the contents of my closet, haha. Also, the rod in my closet is starting to bend, and I'm horrified it's going to snap any moment, theres so much crap on it!

You can check everything out at midgescloset.storenvy.com!
I've also added a tab to the top of this page. Some things have sold already but I'll be adding more stuff periodically, I still have a ton of more clothes to add, including a bunch of plaid shirts from my Tegan and Sara phase...
Sizes are mostly US 4/6 and Small/Medium. If you need exact measurements please don't hesitate to ask! I'll probs will be adding some purses and shoes too.

Zine Review: Missy Kulik of Sugar Cookie

Photobucket

The lovley zine queen Missy of Sugar Cookie was kind enough to send me this package of zine to review and I'm pretty much smitten with all of them. Her style is what I strive for whenever I want to draw something cute and fun to look at. Missy and I share a lot of interests, which also helps (like snail mail, thrift store dresses, sock monkeys, ect)
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
(Remember Milky Pens?!)

Also relatable to me personally in the funniest way... I like having things in common with people in unexpected ways. The pages are all little comics of Missy's little anecdotes, or what she did on a certain day. One was about a windy day when it was almost Spring and going to yoga in the late afternoon, which was basically my day yesterday. In another issue she has little drawings of things she's mailed to different people, some are bit strange and also things I've sent to people in the mail, including a pair of underwear...Haha!
Photobucket

Oh, and then there's Tofu Baby, her signature charecter. Tofu Baby likes to make onion dip with black licorice, has once set sail to find some whales, and doesn't like wearing glasses. Very adventurous.
Photobucket Photobucket

One of my favorites is this tiny zine called knee high, this one in particular describes favorite dresses... Photobucket
Photobucket

I'm a big fan of lists which may be another contributing factor as to why I love these zines so much. They are a lot of lists of favorite things and firsts, and its fun to look and read about all of them. She even has her comics compiled into her own book, Personal Charm, which is pretty impressive!
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

I gotta say, I am thoroughly amused being engulfed in all these cute comics, and Missy's zines just confirms with me the idea of saying a lot and conveying a lot of feelings using imagery and few words. Being more of a visual then verbal person myself, I find this comforting.  Her comics gave me a great warm and fuzzy feeling, and they are beautifully simple, and sweet. I highly recommend them on a gloomy day when you're not feeling too great, because thy will cheer you right up, and help you find the beauty in the little things! Something I don't do often enough.

Thank you, Missy for sending me your wonderful zines!

You can find Missy's zines in her etsy shop (where she also sells the cutest brooches and other accessories), Sugar Cookie and be sure to check out her website and her blog! You'll be happy you did.

Office Inappropriate

Photobucket Photobucket

Top// New York and Company
Skirt// Kensie
Boots// Zigi

For some reason today I felt like wearing a dressy shirt. Mainly because I like tying up that dressy shirt into a somewhat mid-drift cause thats the only way I feel human in a business casual top. I haven't worn these glasses in a while and forgot how much liked them! I should wear them more often, especially because they are actually prescription. (I wear a lot of fake clear glasses just for style, I only need to see for distance)
This week is going a lot better than I thought, being as I was feeling so flu-ish, but I got some of that zinc crap and I'm feeling way better. Let's hope it continues!

Hey, Babe

 Head to Toe// Thrifted
Candy Heart Necklace// Glitterlimes

I feel like if Audrey Horne was into pin and leopard print she would have totally worn this outfit. I can hear her theme music in my head when I wear these retro heels and red lipstick...
I'm very proud of myself for putting together an outfit that is thrifted from head to toe, except my awesome necklace. I think slowly but surely I'll start exclusively shopping at modcloth and thrift stores/vintage shops. I mean, I'm a style blogger, where else am I gonna shop?! Haha.
I gotta say, getting dressed up and putting on makeup really does help me feel better when I'm under the weather. Don't get me wrong, I definitely have those those days where leopard skirts and drawing on my eyebrows os the last thing on my mind, but if I'm feeling good enough to get cute, I do it and it makes me happy. Yay!

Doggie Dress

Photobucket

Hi! Sorry for being so lazy as of late wit my blog updates... I gotta stop doing that!

This is my favorite dress in the whole world. I kept on putting off posting it on here, cause I was saving it for a good occasion to blog about. I've had this dress for a bout 4 years and it remains to be my favorite dress, the doggies are so cute! I wore this last weekend to the art opening of Heather Gabel and Matt Skiba. It was at a bar so it was really not like a traditional gallery opening but hey, Mike an I got to meet and schmooze with Matt Skiba so thats awesome. Alkaline trio was my favorite band all through out high school. And even though I'm not one who is too hung up on male approval, he did compliment me on mah looks and that was kinda cool, even though it was in front of Mike haha!! I don't think he minds.

AND OH YEAH this is my first post since I finally got my hair cut! Damn, it really has been a while since I posted on here. Dang!
So, I feel like I'm getting sick again. NOT GOOD. I was supposed to go to a non-superbowl get-together today and I had to stay home. Such a bummer. The puppy bowl and some tea is making me feel better, though.

Hope you had a great past two weekends ;)

Midge
