My Log Has Something to Tell You.

I do not introduce the log.

I carry a log - yes. Is it funny to you? It is not to me. Behind all things are reasons. Reasons can even explain the absurd. Do we have the time to learn the reasons behind the human being's varied behavior? I think not. Some take the time. Are they called detectives? Watch - and see what life teaches. One day my log will have something to say about all of this!

Log Lady

PS If you're not into Twin Peaks it may look to you that I've lost my my mind. Don't worry, I'm fine, just really into my costume's charecter. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The Witches Brew

I thought I would give the blog a break from the costume posts today and show you one of my favorite (spoooooooooky) places! A few weeks ago, me and Rhiannon went to one of my few favorite spots on Long Island, The Witches Brew. Though, I haven't visited this little spot in quite some time, maybe two years? They have lots of yummy things and the atmosphere and decor are kind of perfect.

It used to be a huge "punk" hangout back in my high school days. I would come here at night in my best pair of barf yellow fishnets and raggedy mini skirt and hang out with people who only looked as awesome as I did, haha. The place would be packed late nights like a bar would, but it's a coffee house. Now I come there during the day for crumb cake and lattes.
But now more people know about it and serves good food and drinks so it's all kinds of people there now, and they do pretty good business. It's one of my little spots that I'm happy survived the recession. The decor is my favorite. All the couches are old and velvety and they all are different. Pretty sure they're all antiques, along with all their other furnishings. Their chairs and tables are also a mishmash of various 1950's kitchens.
It was slightly crowded that day so I felt a bit bashful taking pictures of the place. So I took pictures of my tights...haha.
The place is always decorated like this, except that the colors are orange, during Halloween time. They used to have glittery paper skills and stuff hanging from the ceiling. I miss those!

This leopard wall has always been the same for the past ten years. The lightbulbs are actually a very bright red. I love this wall!

I should come to places like this on LI more often before I move.

Costume from my Closet // Wednesday Addams

If you have a black dress and any tip with a white collar, you've got Wednesday Addams. Probably one of my favorite last minute costumes. Even though my hair isn't long enough for braid pigtails, I think the look is still very of the character. And I just happened to have a hand..uh, on hand, as Thing! I don't have any headless dolls (anymore, that ship has sailed) so the hand will do.

(hanging out with Thing)

I have a couple more costume post ideas up my sleeve, but I'm open to any suggestions! Like I said, my closet has lots of stuff for me to whip up lotsa looks.

Costume from my Closet// Audrey Horne

This idea was actually my first when I decided to do this little installment of costume ideas from things I already own. Mainly because when I first bought these items at the thrift store, I was channeling Audrey Horne in a subtle way, I guess. But pair it with saddle shoes and fake beauty mark (and some serious eyebrow tweezing...ouch!) and its full a on costume.
It was pretty overcast today, which is why these photos are kind of grainy and showy... in a normal outfit post I would not be pleased with how they came out, but I think the mood fits in this instance.

As I said, everything is thrifted, except for my shoes that were plain black and I painted them for a DIY for this blog back in the summer. Glad a I did, now! I used to own the PERFECT and authentic Bass saddle shoes when I was about 11. I have NO idea whwre they went, which is a real shame because I was an early blommer so my feet are the same size now as they were then. Blast!

In related Twin Peaks things to say, I'm actually going to a Twin Peaks themed Halloween party tonight at a bar Brooklyn and I am beyond excited. I won't be going dresses as Audrey though, being as my actual costume took a lot of thought and putting together so I can't just abandon it. There a hint of what that costume is in the last picture of this post ;) Also, Mike is going as Dr. Jacoby. Oh wait.. scratch that, he literally just called me, saying he changed his mind. He's going to print out the script to the Pilot and attach it to his clothing...haha! That let's me of the hook because I was going to make him some red and blue glasses lenses out of clear plastic. One less thing for me to do today, not complaining!
I'll be sure to report back on how the party is, along with some photos! I'm definitely entering the costume contest.

Costume from my Closet // Daria and Jane

As you probably know from following me, I have a pretty extensive and diverse closet. Having all these different clothing articles makes it super easy for me to come up with last minute costumes!
Here's my Daria and Jane costumes, both of course from my own closet.

Daria//

Jane//

Everything is from every day store/ the thrift store. These kind of posts are fun so I think I'll do a few more. I have more ideas of what I can whip up from my own closet's contents. Moral of this post? If it's not in your closet, then it's definitely at the thrift store. Cheers!

Impulse Dye

Dress// ModCloth
Sweater// Abound
Necklace// Craft fair
Glasses// Coastal
Tights// HUE
Shoes// Blowfish

I literally just woke up one day and decided I wanted blue hair. Being as most of my head is dyed black, I decided to just go with dying the blonde streak blue (for now). I had some leftover manic panic (after midnight blue) from when I had my whole head blue back in the day (still looking for pictures of that!) and dyed it on a whim. Some day soon when I'm feeling more adventurous and more patient, I'm going to try for the whole head. I haven't had my whole head an "unnatural color" for about 7 years now. So I think it's time to re-visit that world. I literally can't stop thinking about it and how awesome I think I would look with blue hair again. Last time I tried it my hair was pretty fried, so this time I'm going to try and take much more care with it, even if it means taking a couple months to get my black hair light enough. Bleaching on top of bleaching right away was my first mistake, I had doll's hair and it was gross.  My aunt Gloria hated it so much that she bought me some deep conditioner at the mall and pretty much forced me to use it. haha! So hopefully next time will be better, now that I'm older and much more uh..patient.

I've had this dress for a bit now, I've been meaning to share it for some time. I got it during a modcloth sale for a song. Does anyone else say that? I feel like me and my mom are the only ones. (it means it was really in-expensive). But it's super comfy and great everyday dress. I don't really own jeans and the only other pants I own are pajamas. So I literally wear dresses or skirts every day, so I'm always looking for good every day ones. This one fits the bill.

Hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday!

Studio Tour: Part Two

Here's some more photos of my studio...this batch is focusing on my bookcase and my walls. I like to use a lot of my supplies as decoration, putting them more out in the open than away in a box. I like the way they look, especially my mod podge containers.

I love how colorful my bookcase is. The typewriter is obviously my favorite item on it. It was a Christmas present from my dad last year! I was so confused when I got it all wrapped up because it was so heavy! But then I was pleasantly surprised to see it was a 1920's revamped Remington. There's no exclamation point key! haha

That little space in the back is my alcove, where I keep lots of stock things like blank tote bags and jewelry boxes, and old art pieces away in folders. There's also a comforter and some pillows on the floor so it can act as my little reading cave when I want a break.

I always forget to change my calendars.I always end up changing it like two weeks into the month. Whoopsie! I got this Kate Beaton one in a good bag at last year's Bust Holiday Craftacular, one of my favorite events ever. One day I will table! Maybe next year. I digress.
I'd like to end this post on a uplifting note like this "dream big" signature from a Lois Maffeo CD booklet. I ordered the CD (which I highly recommend, perfect 90's singer/songwriter rock) and it was by chance, signed! I felt so lucky, and I took the "dream big" message to heart, and I plan to keep in my sight at all times where ever my various workspaces may be.

Dream big!

Rhymes with Blood Orange

Top// ModCloth (out of stock)
Sweater// Old Navy
Brooch// Thrifted
Glasses// Kiss
Tights// JC Penny
Boots// Bass

Hello! I'm in love with the color of this cardigan. Though I'm not nuts about non-crop cardigans (hey, it was 7 dollars, I bought it for the color) So I always like to tie long cardigans like this. Sometimes I can like a long cardigan, but it depends on the rest of the outfit. And I love these tights because they look like thigh highs but won't sag down. Which kind of the most annoying thing ever.

I have a serious case of the Mondays right now, I can't seem to wake up to get anything done. And there is a lot to do! I still have to get Stigma #4 done and ready. I have all the text laid out, just need to get the visual done. I also need to get some paintings done for the original art section of the shop, which is a lot of work!
Now I have to go out and do some supply shopping. Sorry this was so short and somewhat dull. I need more coffee!

Midge
