The Log Lady

Two days ago we lost Catherine E Coulson, most known as the log lady in Twin Peaks. I loved the log lady so much, and kind of identified with her character. I say a lot of weird things, they make sense in my head, and sometimes I can sound confusing, albeit not nearly as profound as the log lady, but still. I just like have a lot of thoughts, sometimes misunderstood. I can relate.

She was such crucial character that show and Catherine was a phenomenal actress. She was good buds with David Lynch, and I actually just found out that she was assistant director for "Eraserhead".

The log lady hands down has the best lines in Twin Peaks and her anecdotes are some of my favorite  quotes. This illustration being one of them. She's gonna really be missed!

Photo Diary// Fall Home

Autumn is such a great decorating season, when your a homebody weirdo like myself. I have creepy stuff all over the house year round, but this time of year gives me an excuse to push it a bit more. Yesterday was the Autumnal Equinox and I celebrated with a pumpkin spice latte while I got some work things done in the park, but still got it iced because it was still 80 degrees WTF. Anyway...

I put up orange lights in my office. I love having fairy lights around, and I wish it wasn't so college dorm-y to have them out all year round. My studio is located right off my living room, so I like to keep my office door open and plug in the lights so the orange glow seeps in while I'm watching TV or reading.
Candles are an absolute must. How cute is that cat one? I got it from this rad etsy shop.  The other one is a cheapie one from Target, but it has a wood wick so it makes crackle sounds as it burns.
I love displaying my creepy books, but I do that year round.
I watched Nosforatu in it's entirety for the first time recently, I didn't realize that all the amusing parts with the Count's weird choreography is in like the last 15 minutes of the film. After that I watched the Sixth Sense for the first time, I've gone all these years without seeing it (but I did know the ending because everyone spoils everything and that ending is common knowledge). I went straight to bed after watching that, supremely spooked. Which I guess was my intention.
And because I can, I bought fake pumpkins. I'm scared to get real gourds for the mantle because 1: let's face it, we all know what those look like (dicks) and 2: I would leave them there too long and the would rot and I wouldn't realize it. That's just a thing that I would totally do.

Happy Fall!

Stickers, Mirrors, and Pins Galore!

Just added some new designs to the shop last week. I'm pleasantly surprised at my color combinations for these. Color is something  usually really struggle with, actually. I think my issue is that I love all the colors, so I have a tough time picking them out. Maybe subconsciously this is why I've resorted to wearing a lot of black lately, ha! Anyway, I have to really get myself to focus to come up with palates that look good and that I like. That yellowy/chartreuse color has been a favorite of mine since forever, so it's in a lot of my work. I've even decided to add that color a bit in my new branding and other things.

I think I'm rambling. I've been meaning to re-do my feminism is cool cat illustration for some time, I feel she really needed an update. So thats one of the new designs, along with another kitty, a bat, and another old design that I've brought back to life a bit, the spooky banner. It was a necklace design for a while, that I've also given a makeover, and I was so happy with it that I'm made it into other things, just in time for the best time of the year.

You can find all these sweet things via the links below!

All on Black

Sooo been on an all black kick lately. Not only is is super easy to put outfits together, but it will always look good. I would also totally be lying if I said that this whole look ins't seasonally inspired. I just wanna be a human jack o lantern, you guys.

Obviously not pictured is my Autumn perfume scent which is Amarige. I adopted this habit from my mom, where we only wear certain perfumes in their designated season. Not sure if this is common, but it's one of my favorite things to do when a new season rolls around. It really gets you in the mood for the change of temperature and to embrace all things involved with that time of year. It's weird, this stuff makes me think of fall more than pumpkin spice or apple whatever scents. Go figure.

My Stuff// Oddities

It's no secret that I have acquired some weird things. It's a major hobby of mine to collect odd objects, because I always love having something interesting to look at. Some things even hold a piece of history.
My favorite for a while is any sort of weird doll head or bust. The collection is growing, and Mike, understandably so, makes sure they stay here in my office. I don't blame him, I know they can be creepy. But I still love them! This on above has three faces.
This cat mask is new, it was a birthday gift from my friends. I've mentioned it before, but I've been on the hunt for vintage halloween masks on and off for about a year now, and it's so great to finally have one. Even better that it's a cat!
OK, I haven't shared this one yet. It's a doozy. SFW, maybe? I don't know.
It's a vintage vibrator. You heard me. I knew exactly what it was when I saw it on the shelf before I bought it, because me being who I am, I'm pretty knowledgeable about the period of time when doctors prescribed these things to women who exhibited signs of "hysteria" (which is a word that basically combines female anatomy with "crazy", thanks guys). This is is probably the most unique and historic thing I own, and I love showing people when they're over.

This shot glass is new from the flea market I went to in Woodstock over labor day weekend. It's double paned for her eyes so they're always sort of moving. Fucking cool! She's saying "enjoy yourself, it's later than you think!"

This painting isn't vintage, but I also bought it at the Woodstock flea market. It reminded me a lot of Bojack Horseman! But it was one of those things that when I saw it I NEEDED IT. The artist is, unfortunately unknown. I asked the vendor and she either forgot or didn't know. It's still rad, and it looks great in the green hallway by the bathroom.

I am a Bonfire

Fall look has been achieved. I know it's still technically summer, but I am a cliche and I love fall.

I had a lot of manic panic sitting around when I got back from a Labor Day weekend cabin trip and decided to have a lil makeover/netflix Labor Day. The dye itself is called "pillarbox red" and I was HOPING to achieve a fire engine/screaming bitch red, but it came out orange, even though I left it in for the entire duration of Sleepy Hollow and then some. I don't mind the orange, and it's totally growing on me. I'm also getting some Shirley Manson vibes which is definitely a welcome change. She's fucking rad.

Seasonal makeovers are also rad. Give me all the pumpkin spice you have. (sorry)

Happy time for hats! Not really, it's still in like the 90's. September is the month I yell at the weather to cool down and then winters here before I know it and I curse that too. I just want mild temperate weather. All the time.

Anyway, I can still wear little dresses without being cold, and the hat is a nice fall-ish touch. It's Summer for another few weeks so I should quit complaining and enjoy warm-ness while I still can.

Vieux Montreal

Did I mention I was in Montreal when I was away? I love that city. Mike went to McGill so I was up there a lot in the beginning of our relationship to visit him. And we just love it there, and his buddy from college got married there the Saturday before last, so we decided to make a vacation out of going up for that. We were total tourists and stayed in a cute little hotel in Old Montreal, which feels like you're in France. Also, our hotel's thing was having lots of original art around, and there was a freakin' Warhol in the Lobby. Pretty damn cool. More on Montreal later, with more pictures. Lots of them are on film, because I'm an annoying hipster. These were taken by a fountain in one of the main squares of Old Montreal.

On to the debacle of this dress. My never ending quest for finding shift dresses that fit both my top and bottom half. This looked like it flared out enough when I ordered it but oooooh boy I was just a tad to bodacious. It was final sale, too, so no dice on returning it. I really like it and didn't wanna sell it so I got creative. I had these vintage maxi dresses from the 60's or 70's lying around and I really wasn't wearing them, so I cut one of them into a shorter dress. Then I just used the fabric to make triangle panels to sew into the side of this number. Worked out pretty well if I do say so myself! Now it fits perfect and it's on of my new favorite dresses.

And in even OTHER news I got a wisdom tooth pulled yesterday. It started bothering me on the tail end of our trip in Montreal and saw the dentist once we got back. And as of yesterday that little jerk is outta my mouth for good. I opted for being sedated (and to my chagrin couldn't find my tank top that says "I wanna be sedated" to wear to the procedure) and when it was done I thought they haven't even started yet. That stuff is magic. Just one tooth was yanked, so it's not too bad. Minimal pain. Anyways, I was outta commission all day yesterday, and today I'm getting a few things done before we leave a for a cabin trip weekend with friends in a few hours. Life has been so non-stop lately! Gotta go and ship as many etsy orders as I can...

Have a great holiday weekend :D
